The enchanting Golden Isles was recently named the #1 Best U.S. Islands by Travel + Leisure.
Travel + Leisure’s annual “World’s Best Awards” are considered the most trusted rankings in the travel industry. Each year, their readers share their opinions on travel experiences based on trips they’ve recently taken. In this, their 28th annual awards, they received an overwhelming number of votes from readers. From October 24, 2022, to February 27, 2023, an extensive survey was conducted through a secure website provided by our trusted research partner, Proof Insights.
In 2023, a record-breaking 165,000 T+L readers participated in the survey. Islands were closely evaluated based on several key criteria that included natural attractions and beaches, activities and sights, restaurants and food, as well as the people and their friendliness. Additionally, value was an important factor taken into account.
Respondents had the option to rate each characteristic as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are determined by averaging these responses, crowning the best islands deserving of recognition.
For nine consecutive years, the Golden Isles have made T+L’s list by captivating travelers.
Collectively, the Golden Isles area encompasses the mainland city of Brunswick and its four beautiful barrier islands off of Georgia: St. Simons, Sea Island, Little St. Simons and Jekyll Island.
