St. Simons Island’s Georgia-Florida Weekend, commonly referred to as “Frat Beach,” is an annual event.
The Georgia-Florida Weekend is an annual event that brings together fans of college football and the picturesque charm of the Georgia coast. This rivalry game features the University of Georgia Bulldogs competing against the University of Florida Gators, transforming the serene St. Simons Island into a lively hub of excitement and celebration. The rivalry dates back to the early 1900s and has been played every season since 1926, remaining as strong as ever.

Frat Beach is renowned as the largest costume party on the Georgia coast.
This is a beloved tradition among alumni, college students, and fans. Participants dress up in costumes and gather on East Beach the night before the game. The beach turns into a massive weekend party, predominantly featuring University of Georgia students. Frat Beach usually takes place on the Friday before the big game. Lighthouse Trolleys Land and Sea Tours provides safe and reliable transportation to and from East Beach during the celebrations.
Numerous pubs and bars on St. Simons Island offer live music throughout the weekend of the Georgia-Florida football game. Many local shops and restaurants on St. Simons Island offer special deals, discounts, and prizes during the Georgia-Florida Weekend.
The Georgia-Florida Beach Sweep is a community event held on the Saturday morning of the big game.
After the festivities, waste is often left behind. This poses a threat to local wildlife and detracts from the beauty of the St. Simons coastline. This event is organized by Keep Golden Isles Beautiful, in partnership with other local organizations. Volunteers gather at the Old Coast Guard Station, where clean-up supplies are provided to those who come to help.
