The beach is the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable wedding.
If you want to say ‘I do’ on the shores of St. Simons Island, here are a few things to consider.
What About Wedding Permits and Reserving a Space?
Georgia’s beaches are public and no permits, including photography permits, are required for a beach wedding. If you choose to marry on a public beach, you may have onlookers. Public pathways and parking lots must remain unobstructed. Check directly with the local parks department for reservation information.
East Beach is the popular wedding spot and home to a historic Coast Guard station. Reservations are not required, but make sure you are familiar with all regulations regarding hosting outdoor events on East Beach.
Planning the Wedding with Mother Nature:
St. Simons Island’s mild climate makes beach weddings an option year-round. April, May and September-November provide the best climate for outdoor events. If you are panning a wedding in July and August consider having a tented or indoor venue after a shorter ceremony. December and January can be downright chilly, but can also be 80 degrees. You never know. Therefore, like the heated summer months, we recommend planning a shorter ceremony with an indoor or tented reception.
Tides are a very important factor when planning Georgia beach wedding. An expansive shoreline during low tide provides plenty of space for ceremony guests and photos. Breezes are minimal during low tide. This greatly helps the picture-taking process photo. Alternatively, high tides limit the beach area and the breeze is stronger. These tides can vary by up to 8 feet, so make sure to review tide charts as you look at specific wedding dates.
Making It Legal:
Don’t forget about your marriage license! You will need on your big day. Begin this process of obtaining a marriage license 3-4 weeks in advance. The license is good for up to six months prior to your wedding. To apply for your marriage license, download an application online at the Glynn County Probate Court’s website.
