Join the Georgia Sea Turtle Center on a Sunrise Turtle Walk to explore the wonders of Jekyll Island’s beach ecology.
Your guide will introduce you to the basics of sea turtle nesting and hatching, the ecological history of Jekyll, and any wildlife you come across. One of the potential activities could be the opportunity to witness an excavation of a recently hatched sea turtle nest. Program participants must provide their own transportation from the Georgia Sea Turtle Center to the beach access point. Group size is limited to 20 people per walk by DNR permit restrictions.
If you have any specific needs to participate, please contact us at least one week ahead of your reservation by emailing our Reservations Department at email@example.com.
Participants should arrive at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center main parking lot at 6:50 AM for check-in and an introduction with your guides (please bring your electronic or hard-copy receipt).
This program lasts up to 1.5 hours and can include walking two miles down the beach. This program may also include standing for up to 45 minutes.
Participants must be at least 10 years old. All participants aged 10-15 years old are required to be accompanied by an adult (18+) on the walk.
Due to insects and the potential for intense sun, we recommended bringing comfortable clothing, including a short-sleeved shirt, light jacket/rain jacket, shorts, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and closed-toed shoes.
WE ENCOURAGE YOU BRING:
- Water (at least 2 liters)
- Sun protection
- Bug spray
Performing the following activities during a walk is grounds for immediate dismissal with no refund:
- Unauthorized handling or harassment of sea turtles
